English Placement Test

English as a Second Language

All students beginning a degree (NOT ESL) program at Grenfell for the first time in January 2017 whose first language is not English and who have not completed a degree in an all-English medium university are required to write the English language placement test. In other words, you must take this test if you were required to submit an IELTS, TOEFL, MELAB or other test of English proficiency score for admission to Memorial University. This test includes a test of reading comprehension (mostly multiple choice questions) and an essay on a given topic. This test is used to determine which English language course is most appropriate for you – ENGL 1000 (and 1001) or ENGL 1020 (and 1021).
