It’s been a year since composting at Grenfell began. Thanks to you, we have successfully diverted over 25 tons of organic waste from our landfills.
This is only the beginning. Our composter can process up to 100 tons of waste per year. Let’s all work together to put as much compostable material as possible into the bins at Grenfell. Our composter is operating all year around.
You can see the green bins placed all around campus and in student residences. Labels have been placed on the green bins for your information. But you don’t even really need that because composting is easy! Simply put any food waste, paper towels and napkins into the bins. Please remember that the composter cannot digest plastic, Styrofoam, metal or glass.
Chalet residents have been provided with small brown bins. Keep these in your kitchen and when they are full, simply empty them into one of the green bins located outside the chalets. Our staff will take it from there.
If you live off campus you can participate too. Bring your organic waste from home and put it in any green bin. You can empty your own bin into any of our larger ones or just bring the items in a compostable bag.
Let’s all get together and build on Grenfell’s reputation as the greenest campus in Newfoundland. And let’s make others green with envy! Let’s all do our part in turning organic waste into fresh, healthy compost that will help renew our environment.
Watch for ongoing promotions throughout the year and help spread the word on waste reduction.
