Environmental Policy Institute
The Environmental Policy Institute (EPI) is an initiative of Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland dedicated to excellence in research, teaching and learning and public engagement on environmental policy issues in Newfoundland and Labrador, in Canada, and internationally. EPI is an inclusive and transdisciplinary community whose activities include analyzing current environmental policies, exploring innovative solutions, conducting, co-ordinating and disseminating research widely to both academic and general public audiences and developing provincial capacity in environmental policy.
Since its establishment in February 2011, EPI has been very active hosting multiple guest speakers, facilitating numerous workshops, participating in various university and government consultations and hosting public engagement events in consultation with our community partners and the general public.
EPI was formed with four major objectives:
- To facilitate debate on provincial environmental policy issues within the environmental policy community as well as the broader public;
- To facilitate and coordinate research that offers a critical analysis of current environmental policy as well as innovative solutions to policy problems;
- To disseminate and “mobilize” this research widely to both academic and general public audiences;
- To develop the capacity for environmental policy development, evaluation and engagement in the provincial policy community, both within and outside government
