Grenfell Campus: Top Ten Selling Points

  1. Quality: world class, award winning professors. Professors are active researchers. We are a campus of Memorial University, which has achieved top 400 ranking in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and consistently ranks in the top five comprehensive universities in the Maclean’s magazine ranking of Canadian universities. 

  2. Program choice: 18 undergraduate degrees in arts, business, education, fine arts, nursing, resource management and science, and a master of arts in environmental policy.

  3. Our size: With approximately 1,300 students and a student to faculty ratio of 17:1, our students get individualized attention.

Students work as research assistants with professors, lab assistants, library assistants, campus tour guides, or work in one of the many offices on campus. Students can also avail of the ACCESS mentorship program where students are connected with committed professionals in the workplace to gain firsthand knowledge and experience in a field of interest. 

  7. We're affordable: Due to substantial, ongoing government support, Grenfell Campus, Memorial University offers one of the lowest international tuition rates in Canada at just $8,800 for two semesters of full-time, undergraduate study.

  8. We're connected: Grenfell is a small campus, but part of one of the largest universities in Atlantic Canada. Grenfell also offers numerous exchange opportunities around the world. Students may also have an opportunity to study at Memorial University’s campus in Harlow, England or in St. Pierre and Miquelon as part of the Frecker Program.

  9. Our facilities: Grenfell Campus is home to Atlantic Canada’s largest telescope. Also, Grenfell is close to Memorial's Bonne Bay Marine Station where students can avail of field courses. A Boreal Ecosystem Research Facility was recently opened and will focus on research in forestry, agriculture and the environmental sector. Grenfell also houses a 200 seat black-box theatre that is used by its theatre students and studio space for visual arts students.

  10. On-campus housing: Housing guarantee for first year students who apply by the deadline. 50% of students live on campus! All students get a private room.

Grenfell Campus, Memorial University

Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland, is located in beautiful Corner Brook on the island of Newfoundland, Canada's easternmost province. Grenfell Campus offers degrees focusing on sustainability and the environment, as well as degrees in business, fine arts (theatre and visual arts), science, education, nursing and arts. With approximately 1,300 students, the campus is small, safe and intimate, offering individual attention from our award-winning faculty and staff.

Grenfell Campus is a campus of Memorial University. Memorial University, founded in 1949, is a public university and is one of the largest universities in Atlantic Canada, with over 18,000 students and 100 programs over four campuses. Memorial University consistently ranks among the top five comprehensive universities in Canada in the Maclean’s magazine ranking of Canadian universities.

Corner Brook

Corner Brook is a small city with a population of approximately 20,000. Due to Corner Brook’s position as a retail center for Western Newfoundland, it has the amenities of a much larger city, including shopping malls, a cinema, recreational and cultural facilities. Grenfell Campus is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from Corner Brook’s downtown core, which has numerous shops, businesses and restaurants. The Corner Brook Stream Trails, a network of scenic walking paths around the city, can be accessed from campus, and Marble Mountain ski resort is located just a 10 minute drive outside of the city.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador’s is Canada’s eastern-most province. The population of approximately 500,000 people is spread out over an area almost one and three quarters times the size of Great Britain. Our province is known for its friendly, welcoming people and a clean, safe and healthy environment. The main industries in Newfoundland and Labrador include fishing, forestry, education, health care, tourism and recreation.

English Language Programs

Intensive English programs at Grenfell are full-time programs of academic English study to prepare students for the language demands of university courses. Students may apply for provisional admission to Memorial at the same time as applying for one of our intensive English programs. Programs are offered at three levels. In the Intensive English Bridge Program levels (one and two) students are permitted to take one or two academic courses, as part of their program of language study. Features of our intensive English programs are small class sizes (maximum 14 per class), highly-qualified instructors, and full integration into campus life and academics.

Our summer programs combine language training with evening and weekend activities to highlight the unique beauty and culture of our Western Newfoundland setting.
