Teaching and academic programming

Strategic Plan

Year 1

  • Work with Western Health to secure adequate new space for the Western Regional School of Nursing is ongoing. Priorities include: adequate lecture and lab space, as well as proximity to health care facilities and Grenfell Campus.
  • memorandum of understanding was developed with the Department of National Defence that allows for the academic consideration of military training, experiences and certifications was signed.
  • With the move to virtual learning, a learning technology specialist was hired to assist faculty in recording lectures, create virtual classrooms and engage students in an online environment. Information Technology Services created an on-campus studio for recording lectures. 
  • Senate approved a Ph.D., transdisciplinary sustainability, and a masters of management and a masters of applied geomatics. Proposals for the Ph.D., boreal ecosystem agricultural research, masters of arts in applied literary studies, master of fine arts in theatre, and master of arts in sustainable rural communities are in various stages of approval.
  • The Bonne Bay Aquarium and Research Station became part of Grenfell Campus, providing new opportunities for research, teaching and engagement.

Year 2

  • Several new programs are in stages of approval and implementation: master of applied literary arts; math and software development program with College of the North Atlantic (CNA), certification in sustainable rural communities. There are also new articulation agreements: filmmaking, CNA; and theatre performance, Holland College.
  • Projects were developed to support virtual learning: IT improvements for digital teaching; tools and equipment to support BFA and MFA programs; renewal of on-campus teaching and learning technology specialist for the production and use of media content for remote and online courses.
