The Career Week provides students with workshops, sessions and events to achieve successful career outcomes.

Below is the list of events for the week – please register in advance for all events, so we are able to have enough materials and food for all attendees.

Monday, March 9th
12:30 – 1:30 pm, Harness Your Entrepreneurship Skills

Location: Third floor, Arts and Science Airport Lounge

Does the thought of being your own boss appeal to you? Have you ever thought about starting your own business? 

Join Allison Rowe from the Navigate Incubator in an interactive session to harness your entrepreneurial mindset and learn what it takes to start your own business.

1:30 – 2:30 pm, Get the Most Out of Your Grad Degree

Location: FC 3019

Join us for a panel discussion that will provide information regarding the unique opportunities available to graduate students for successful career outcomes – encouraging graduate students to pursue both academic and non-academic career options. 

Panelists include: Dr. Kelly Vodden, AVP Research, Graduate Studies and Engagement; Dr. Paul Foley, Graduate Officer – Masters of Arts in Environmental Policy; Leanna Butters, MAEP Graduate; Dr. Yeukai Katanda, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow.

4:30 – 7:00 pm, Environment Job Panel and Networking Event

Location: Third floor, Arts and Science Airport Lounge

Hear from professionals working in environmental science and environmental policy about their work with an opportunity to network with professionals to determine future opportunities. Event sponsored by The Environmental Policy Institute.

Tuesday, March 10th
10:30 am – 2:30 pm, Career and Entrepreneurial Expo (CEE)

Location: Arts and Science Atrium

Students and recent alumni are invited to the annual CEE, where you can create meaningful connections with employers, entrepreneurs and community organizations to pave the way to an exciting career and entrepreneurial pursuits. Event held in partnership with Navigate Entrepreneurship Centre.

During the CEE, attendees are invited to participate in Makerspace tours and workshops with Dr. Maria Kilfoil, offered at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Register for the tours here.

2:30 – 4:00 pm, Resume and CV Writing Workshops

Locations: Resume workshop – AS 228 | CV workshop – AS 304

Professionals from St. John's Career Development Office and Grenfell's Office of Engagement will facilitate a hands on workshop to create your resume/CV using best practices. Attendees should bring a draft of the resume/CV and you will leave with a completed professional resume/CV.

4:00 – 5:00pm, Career Mapping for a Successful Future

Location: Third floor, Arts and Science Airport Lounge

Join Claire LeDrew, Career Advisor and Andrea Keating, Career Development Coordinator as you reflect on your personal life experiences and individual strengths and skills to create and better understand your unique career journey.

Coffee/tea and snacks provided

5:00 – 6:00pm, Be a Leader – Embracing Your Leadership Skills

Location: Third floor, Arts and Science Airport Lounge

Learn how you can leverage your personal leadership skills for success at university, in your career and life! During the session you will learn how to use your talents and skills to achieve your goals and learn more about yourself. Registered attendees will receive a code to access the Clifton Strengths Finder assessment in advance of this session.

Wednesday, March 11th
3:30 – 4:30 pm, Creating a Professional Online Presence

Location: AS 2016

Heather Dawson, Marketing Manager, will provide information on social media professionalism, how to create a great online first impression and best practices for your LinkedIn profile. 

Attendees will receive a free professional head shot.

4:30 – 5:30 pm, Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk: A Discussion on Professional Networking

Location: AS 2016

Join the Connector NL team for an interactive presentation on dressing professionally, etiquette, professional networking and how to master your elevator speech.

​5:30 – 7:00 pm, Career Week Networking Reception

Location: Third floor, Arts and Science Airport Lounge

Students, faculty, alumni and employers are invited to participate in this networking reception to engage and practice your networking and professional skills. Reception sponsored by Connector NL.
