Important information for students regarding changes to semester resulting from interruption at St. John's campus.
Online Courses
CITL has confirmed that ALL online courses will be impacted by the extension of the semester. This applies to all online courses, including those originating from Grenfell Campus. This is to ensure students who are in Grenfell online courses, but reside in areas affected by the SOE are not disadvantaged, as well as the fact that CITL offices were closed and staff were unable to carry out work related to invigilated assessments. It is important to follow-up with your instructor so that you fully understand the revised schedule for your specific courses. Below are some FAQs provided by CITL:
Q: How are online courses impacted by the extended semester?
A: Online courses from all campuses (whether originating from St. John's or Grenfell campus) will follow a revised schedule that accommodates Memorial University's extension of the winter semester. Online courses will use Monday, Jan. 27, as the start of Week 3 (three). Students are encouraged to confirm this schedule with their instructors for each course. View the entire revised weekly calendar for online courses.
Q: What is the online weekly calendar?
A: The online weekly calendar is a tool that helps CITL facilitate the administration of online courses for instructors and students. Administration includes maintaining course sites in Brightspace, and organizing and invigilating mid-term examinations.
Q: How does the extended semester affect exams and assignment deadlines in online courses?
A: CITL has revised the weekly calendar for online courses to accommodate the extended semester; as a result, exams and assignments will stay in the same week with the adjusted dates. Students are encouraged to confirm their schedules with the instructors for each course.
Q: If my online course does not have invigilated mid-term or final exams, do I still follow the revised schedule?
A: If your online course does not have any invigilated mid-term or final exams, it is up to the instructor whether the course will follow the original or revised schedule. Students are encouraged to confirm their schedules with the instructors for each course.
