Profile
René A. Silva is a graduate student at the Process and Engineering Department, Memorial University of Newfoundland. He obtained his Chemical Engineering degree at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala where he first started studying bioprocesses for viable waste beneficiations. To obtain his degree, he presented a dissertation focused on the use of methanogenic microorganisms for energy production. He also holds a Master of Engineering degree obtained from Chonbuk National University after studying the use of iron oxidizing bacteria and archaea for decontamination of mine wastes and recovery of precious metals from electronic waste. At Grenfell campus, René is involved in the project, "Strengthening Process Efficiencies in a Changing Industry". As a MITACS intern, he is responsible for waste management and product development at the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited exploring opportunities for waste reduction and upcycling.
