English Placement Test

English as a Second Language

All students beginning a degree program at Grenfell Campus whose first language is not English and who have not completed a degree in an all-English medium university are required to write the English Placement Test. You are only required to write this test if you submitted an IELTS, TOEFL, MELAB or other test of English proficiency score for admission to Memorial University.

EXCHANGE STUDENTS and students in INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAMS at Grenfell are NOT REQUIRED to write this test.

This test assesses your reading comprehension (mostly multiple choice questions) and requires an essay on a given topic. Your score on this test is used to determine which English language course is most appropriate for you – ENGL 1000 (and 1001) or ENGL 1020 (and 1021).
