Dr. Julie Pitcher Giles, PhD (Leicester); assistant professor, program chair
Assistant Professor – Business Administration
The broad focus of my core research interest is strategic social responsibility; specifically, I am most interested in examining how and why small businesses and engage with their communities (rural, in particular) for mutual benefit. I am currently pursuing PhD studies at the University of Leicester in this area.
Exploring university teaching and learning, and curriculum development, specifically as they relate to the online learning environment, are further areas of research curiosity that bridge my teaching and research interests.
I have a love of teaching, and of learning (in the classroom and online), and most recently, I have begun to examine the complete experience of online courses for students, and how a course’s “content” is really only a singular piece of the online experience.
I typically teach in the areas of social responsibility, and strategic planning, implementation and management; occasionally I step outside these areas into leadership and organizational behaviour.
I also supervise undergraduate students through the Memorial University Undergraduate Career Experience (MUCEP) program, and graduate students in the Masters of Arts in Environmental Policy (MAEP) program who have a specific interest in corporate social responsibility.
