Psychology Society

The PSYCHOLOGY SOCIETY is a student-run organization. For up to date news and events hosted by the Psychology Society, LIKE us on Facebook!

Fundraising activities allow the society to:

  • Host socials with psychology professors

  • Organize graduation festivities

  • Plan psychology-related events

  • Donate funds for non-profit organizations

The Psychology Society's goals are to raise awareness about mental health, engage students in the field of psychology, and to foster a positive and encouraging learning environment for students. These goals are accomplished by:

  1. Increasing awareness about mental health and decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

  2. Giving back to mental health issues in the community through fundraising.

  3. Catering to students at Grenfell Campus through fun events and fundraisers.

The Psychology Society meets in the Dem Room once a week. We are always looking for new members and volunteers! It’s a great way to meet other students, interact with professors, and get involved in campus life.

The Dem Room (AS 348) is a meeting place for all psychology students. Feel free to use this space to:

  • Work on your courses

  • Use the computers and other psychology resources

  • Socialize / de-stress with other psychology students

  • Stay informed by reading relevant notices posted on dem room boards

Brianne Bishop (President)

Email: bvbishop@grenfell.mun.ca

Hi there, my name is Brianne Bishop, and I am the president of the Psychology Society. I am so excited to be back on campus this year and I hope to be able to work with the rest of our executive team to plan fun and safe events that students can participate in. However, I know that this year is going to be challenging. Adjusting to remote teaching during a pandemic and now returning to blended learning or in-person classes is exhausting for a lot of students. I encourage anyone to reach out to me at any time - regarding the psych society, mental health, or even just to chat!

I’m really looking forward to being able to have events and see everyone again after a year and a half of online learning! The Psych society is a great way to feel connected and get to know people as well as make some new friends along the way! We’re a super friendly group and welcome everyone to come and be involved! I can’t wait to see you all at our meetings! If you ever have any questions send me an email or if you see me around campus feel free to come say hi!

Hello everyone, my name is Shelby Rolfe, and I am in my fourth year of my B.Sc. in Psychology (Hons). I have been part of the Grenfell Campus Psychology Society for three years now. This year I am excited to be a part of the executive team as Secretary. I feel honored to be able to take this role and work with the rest of the executive team and general members to create some fun memories and give back to our community. Drishti Patel (Treasurer

Hello all! My name is Drishti Patel, and I am currently in the fourth year of my B.Sc. in Psychology (Honours) degree. I am coming to you as the Treasurer of the Psychology Society, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the executive team this year! I was involved with the Psychology Society in my early years at Grenfell and know first-hand how rewarding it is to participate in activities that raise awareness regarding mental health and support the community in doing so. With that, I’m looking forward to a year of fun activities, mental health awareness campaigns and meeting some wonderful new people. If you are looking to get involved on campus and in the community, joining the Psych Society would prove to be a great opportunity. I hope you all have an amazing year, and please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time!

Helena McCarthy (Social Media Representative 1)

Hi everyone! My name is Helena McCarthy and I’m in my third year of my BSc with a major in psychology. I’m so excited to be one of the social media reps this year! This society is a great opportunity to get involved on campus and I encourage everyone to join! I can’t wait to work alongside these great people creating fun events, making some great posters for them and running the psych society Instagram page! If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email.

Jessie Holden (Social Media Representative 2)

Hi there, my name is Jessie Holden, and I am one of the social media representatives for the Psych Society this year. I am also a third-year psychology student hoping to do Honours next year. In the future, I hope to go into counselling. I enjoy cooking and baking (I am not very good at it, but I enjoy it). I say this with any introduction, but I have two cats, one is very overweight and the other has no teeth. If you would like to reach for any questions regarding the psych society, you can certainly email me. You could also, more than likely, find me in the Dem room in the psychology hallway!

naomi_butt.jpgNaomi Butt (Social Media Representative 3)

Hello everyone, my name is Naomi Butt, and I am one of the new social media representatives for this semester's Psych society. I am a second-year BA student planning on majoring in psychology. I am undecided about my end career goal, but I am very interested in therapy and law. I grew up in a small town in the straits of Labrador so I am very excited to finally be on campus where I can get involved and meet new people. My favorite season is Winter, and I enjoy hiking, skating, being with my friends, and travelling.
