Teaching Interests
Maggie Atkinson is an art historian in the School of Fine Arts at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, Newfoundland. She earned her BA (Hons.) in history of art with a minor in fine art and completed her MA and PhD at Queen's University (Kingston). She teaches art history and feminist theory, focusing on modern and contemporary visual culture specializing in conceptions of aestheticism and modernity in Britain and North America.Research Interests
Her current experiential research examines material and performative culture in Shamanic ceremonial traditions and art production and spiritual and fantastic representation. Other interests include aestheticism, art deco, art nouveau and arts and crafts, with a particular focus on textiles and jewelry design and history; multi-faceted identities; liminal/interstitial/transitional spaces; trans-temporal mapping; diasporas, cultural hybrids and popular culture and advertising.
