Biology Stream, Environmental Science
Requirements
Along with the Environmental Science core requirements, students in the biology stream must complete the following courses:
- Biology 2010, 2122
- Chemistry 1200/1001 or chemistry 1011*/1031* or chemistry 1050/1051*, and one of chemistry 2210 or 2301 or 2440 or 2400/2401, or chemistry 1010/1011* and chemistry 2440
- Environmental science 3110, 3130, 3131, 4132, 4140 (or equivalent field course)
- Two of Environmental Science 4069, 4131, 4133, 4240, 4479
- One additional laboratory (science/statistics/GIS) course beyond the first year level excluding environmental science core courses. A course used to fulfill a stream requirement cannot also be used as a course in the environmental science core.
* Note that these chemistry courses are also offered at the St. John's campus
Sample four-year schedule
One | Biology 1001 English 1000 or 1050 Chemistry 1200 Mathematics 1000 Elective
| Biology 1002 English 1110 or 1001 or 1051 Chemistry 1001 Elective Elective
| We recommend that you choose electives that
satisfy the General Education and Writing requirements of Grenfell
Campus degrees. Students with high academic standing should also
consider completing one of the sequences from the Environmental Science
core (b) in their first year. |
Two | Biology 2600 *Chemistry 2301 or 2400 or 2440 or elective Statistics 2550 Elective Elective
| Biology 2122 A lab course (not ENVS Core & >1st year) Biology 2010 *Chemistry 2210 or 2401 or elective Earth Science 1000
| Note: some of these courses have
prerequisites. *Only one of Chemistry 2300/Chemistry 2440/Chemistry 2210 is required. If Chemistry 2400 is taken then Chemistry 2401 must also be completed to fulfill the second year chemistry requirement.
|
Three | ENVS 3131 ENVS 3110 Physics 1020 or 1050* Elective Elective
| ENVS 3130 Physics 1021 or 1051* Elective Elective Elective | *Please note, these physics courses can also be taken earlier in the program. As
electives, students should consider taking the two courses that are
required under section (c) of the Environmental Science Core
requirements. |
Four (General degree)
| ENVS 4132 ENVS 4140 or equivalent ENVS course* Elective Elective
| ENVS course* ENVS 4000 ENVS 4950 Elective Elective
| ENVS 4000 can be completed in either semester. *For ENVS electives, general students with appropriate prerequisites will take any 2 of ENVS 4069, 4131, 4133, 4240, and 4479.

Notes:
A selection of the category (d) Core courses
are planned to fit with the required second year courses, and a
selection of the category (c) Core courses are planned to fit with the
required third year courses.
It should be noted that the courses are shown in the semesters in which they are usually offered. In certain years, it may be necessary to offer a particular course in a different semester to that shown.
The suggested program sequence shown above is for
guidance and students may alter the order in which courses are taken.
However, students should be aware that many courses have one or more
prerequisites and these limit the possible variations in programs. Also,
it is intended that the courses shown will, whenever possible, be
timetabled to fit. Students are not guaranteed that other arrangements
will be practicable.
