Chemistry Stream, Environmental Science
Requirements
Along with the Environmental Science core requirements, students in the chemistry stream must complete the following courses:
- Chemistry 1200/1001 or chemistry 1011*/1031* or chemistry 1050/1051* sequence. It is strongly recommended that students complete one of these sequences of chemistry courses in their first year.
- Chemistry 2210, 2300, and 2400/2401 or equivalent
- Environmental science 2261, 3210, 3211, 3260, 3261, 4230
- Two of environmental science 4069, 4131, 4240, 4249, 4479
- Mathematics 1001 which should be completed in the first year of studies
*Note that these chemistry courses are offered at the St. John's campus
Sample Four-Year Plan
One | Chemistry 1200 English 1000 or 1050 Mathematics 1000 Physics 1020 or 1050 Elective
| Chemistry 1001 English 1110 or 1001 or 1051 Mathematics 1001 Physics 1021 or 1051 Elective
| We recommend that you choose electives that
satisfy the General Education and Writing requirements of Grenfell
Campus degrees. Students with high academic standing should also
consider completing one of the sequences from the Environmental Science
core (b) in their first year. |
Two | Chemistry 2400 Chemistry 2300 Statistics 2550 Biology 1001 Elective
| Chemistry 2401 Chemistry 2210 ENVS 2261 Biology 1002
| Note: As electives, students should consider taking two of the three courses
that are required under section (d) of the Environmental Science Core
requirements.

Three | ENVS 3210 ENVS 3260 Earch Science 1000 Biology 2600 Elective
| ENVS 3211 ENVS 3261 Elective Elective Elective | As electives, students should consider taking the two courses that are
required under section (c) of the Environmental Science core
requirements.

| ENVS 4000 and ENVS 4950 can be completed in either semester. *For ENVS course, general students will take any 2 of ENVS 4069, 4131, 4240, 4249, and 4479.
It is important to ensure that the final year selection of other
electives results in the completion of the General Education and Writing
requirements. |

Notes:
- Statistics 2550 should be completed before taking ENVS 3210, hence the math course must be taken in second year.
- A selection of the category (d) Core courses are planned to fit with
the required second year courses, and a selection of the category (c)
Core courses are planned to fit with the required third year courses.
- The introductory biology courses, Biology 1001 and 1002,
are placed in the second year of this schedule. To reduce the number of
lab courses that have to be taken in the second year, it is suggested
that Biology 1001 and 1002
can be taken in first year in place of the two electives. It is
possible, though not recommended, to defer these courses to the third
year and the Biology 2600 to the fourth year.
- It should be noted that the courses are shown in the semesters in which they are usually offered. In certain years, it may be necessary to offer a particular course in a different semester to that shown.
- The suggested program sequence shown above is for guidance and
students may alter the order in which courses are taken. However,
students should be aware that many courses have one or more
prerequisites and these limit the possible variations in programs.
Also, it is intended that the courses shown will, whenever possible, be
timetabled to fit. Students are not guaranteed that other arrangements
will be practicable.
- Under special circumstances, the Program Chair may agree to waive a prerequisite or convert it to a co-requisite.
