It is with great pleasure that I serve as interim dean of the School of Science and the Environment at Grenfell Campus of Memorial University. In our school, my colleagues are dedicated to excellence in teaching and research in a diverse set of disciplines in the sciences and other fields relating to the environment.
At present, our school offers five major undergraduate degrees in environmental science, environment and sustainability, general science, physics, and computational mathematics, as well as 11 minor undergraduate degrees in other disciplines related to environment. In addition, our school offers four graduate degrees at the master’s and Ph.D. levels in environmental policy, boreal ecosystems and agricultural sciences, and transdisciplinary sustainability.
Our highly successful faculty excel in teaching and providing educational experiences for students linked to community issues, and many are engaged in innovative research spanning local, regional, national, and international scales. Close interactions among faculty, staff and students in a small campus setting as well as diverse and well-equipped teaching and research facilities ensure rewarding and successful teaching, learning, and research experiences for everyone.
Our students enjoy small classes flexible programs, hands-on research experience, real world problem-solving approaches and a long-standing tradition of outstanding undergraduate experience offered by my dedicated colleagues.
Our faculty, staff, and graduate students have access to state-of-the-art research facilities located throughout campus, as well as a network of community and landscape resources throughout the region where they can base their research.
My colleagues are looking forward to delivering the continued success and growth of teaching and research at the School of Science and the Environment at Grenfell Campus to promote a flourishing institution poised for the continued success of future generations of students.
Our students will benefit from emphasis on research experiences within academic programming, integrated with community engagement, which prepares them for a career in their field of interest.
