Grenfell visual arts student Ashley Hemmings, artist in residence, Boreal Ecosystem Research Initiative, will exhibit her work, “In the Field,” until Oct. 22 in the Fine Arts atrium.

“In the Field” is Hemmings’ response to the work conducted by researchers in the boreal ecosystem labs and research areas. Her work comprises drawings, plant installations, prints, textiles, film and more.

As part of the residency, the public is invited to participate in a perception/sensory survey of her work at a reception on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 4-6 p.m., in the Fine Arts atrium. Light refreshments will be provided. Remarks will be delivered at 4:15 p.m.

Ashley Hemmings, a visual arts student from Conception Bay South, carried out her Grenfell Campus artist residency in May and June.

“Much of the lab’s work is visual so there are inherently strong links between science and art in these labs,” said Dr. Raymond Thomas, BERI. “This sort of interdisciplinary collaboration and research is desirable helping to build bridges between the science and arts.”

The artist-in-residency program is intended to give the student invaluable experiential learning experience relating to their art practice to a real-world environment and goals
