A Living Memorial

For the Community

Memorial University was founded as a living memorial to those who served in the First World War. It was later re-dedicated to also honour Newfoundland's war dead of the Second World War.

There are several ways in which we try to preserve the memory of our fallen and honour their sacrifice at Grenfell Campus:

  • The Danger Tree Memorial Site

  • The Newfoundland Book of Remembrance, the only displayed copy in Corner Brook and one of three copies owned by Memorial University

  • The Second Battalion, Royal Newfoundland Regiment retired flags and historical display

  • "Peace by Piece" First World War quilt

  • The annual Ceremony of Remembrance held each November

    • Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Memorial University held a virtual Ceremony of Remembrance on November 10, 2020.
