Student Exchange Program

Olivia Leblanc

Hometown: Prospect Bay, NS

Exchange experience: Tasmania, Australia Winter 2017

Why did you pursue an exchange?

I thought that it would be a great way to put myself out there, travel to a place far from Newfoundland, and have an experience that I would never forget - and I was right! I wanted to do something unique and different with my degree, and simultaneously challenge myself to try new things, and to step way outside of my comfort zone - going on an exchange halfway around the world definitely did that.

What was the highlight of your exchange?

The highlight was definitely all of the opportunities it gave me to meet new people, and experience a place totally different from what I was used to. The program brings international students together, and throughout my time in Tasmania I made lasting friendships with people from all around the world. Getting to live in a new place, and being able to get credits towards my degree learning in an entirely new space, has also given me a much wider and holistic understanding of the world, and my place in it.

I would absolutely recommend the exchange program to anyone who has the means - and even if you don't, there is funding out there to help you! Going on exchange has enriched my undergraduate experience in such a huge way and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
